SUMMARY:Best Selling Author and Noted Human Rights Activist John Prendergas
 t to Speak at OSU
DESCRIPTION:Since 2003\, the government of Sudan has murdered 400\,000 of i
 ts own civilians in the Darfur region\, and has forced 2.5-3 million people
  to flee from their homes and become refugees. The Janjaweed\nparamilitary 
 murders\, rapes\, and takes victims into sexual slavery every day. The refu
 gees face death each day as they suffer from starvation\, disease\, and vio
 lence in the camps. This event will\naddress these issues and empower peopl
 e to take action to end this violence. On the evening of Friday\, April 4\,
  2008\, noted human rights activist and author\, John Prendergast\, will be
  giving a public\nlecture at OSU. Prendergast has experience working with a
  vast network of both Democrat and Republican political leaders\, including
  his work as a White House Aide for former President Clinton.\nPrendergast 
 also works with socially conscious celebrities including Don Cheadle and An
 gelia Jolie. Prendergast has established himself as one of the most importa
 nt shapers of public and official\nopinion regarding Darfur. In addition to
  touring Darfur and many other African countries\, he has spoken on many ca
 mpuses\, given countless interviews\, and published more than a dozen books
 \, including\nthe current best-seller (co-authored by Don Cheadle)\, Not on
  Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide In Darfur and Beyond. Prendergast h
 elped establish the ENOUGH Project\, a group that seeks to inform\nthe publ
 ic about genocide\, and to counter its recurrence. He is also senior adviso
 r to the International Crisis Group. Our aim is to make as many students\, 
 staff\, and community members as possible\naware of this public\, inspiring
  and important event regarding one of the most significant international co
