SUMMARY:Bard In The Quad Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:<p>\n  <strong>"Dreaming in Hanoi: ARTâ€™s Production Of Dream 
 in Vietnam"</strong> presented by Allen Nosse\, the Artistic Director of Ar
 tists Repertory Theatre in Portland. This lecture will detail Allen's\n  ex
 periences directing a bi-cultural and bi-lingual production of A Midsummer 
 Night's Dream as part of the National Endowment for the Arts Shakespeare in
  American Communities program.\n</p>\n<p>\n  Oregon State University Theatr
 e hosts the second annual "Bard in the Quad" Lecture Series from July 16 - 
 August 1\, 2008 to coincide with the outdoor performance of Shakespeare's <
 strong>A Midsummer\n  Night's Dream.</strong> The Lecture Series is designe
 d to explore the larger artistic and academic issues presented by Shakespea
 re's work. The theme of the 2008 Lecture Series is "Visualizing\n  Shakespe
 are: The Bard By Design" and will examine the ways in which directors\, art
 ists\, social events\, and political institutions can influence modern perf
 ormances of Shakespeare's work.\n</p>\n<p>\n  The lectures are free and ope
 n to the public\, take place each Wednesday and Friday evenings of the perf
 ormance run (from July 16 - August 1) at 6:00pm in Milam Hall Room 318 on t
 he OSU Campus. The\n  lectures last approximately 1 hour and attendees are 
 encouraged to leave the lectures and then attend that evening's performance
  of <strong>A Midsummer Night's Dream.</strong>\n</p>

 p>\n  For the 2008 Oregon State University "Bard in the Quad" production\, 
 director Scott Palmer has taken Shakespeare's most beloved comedy and place
 d it in the chaotic\, frenetic and highly stylized\n  world of 1920's Silen
 t Film-Hollywood.\n</p>\n<p>\n  A Midsummer Night's Dream features a cast o
 f more than 18 actors\, including the return of visiting artist Maggie Chap
 in (who played Beatrice in last year's Much Ado) as Bottom\, and new visiti
 ng\n  artist Johanne Scoular as Helena. All of the actors will be playing r
 ecognizable icons of Hollywood's Silent Film Era (such as Rudolph Valentino
 \, Theda Bara\, Fanny Brice\, Charlie Chaplin\, Louise\n  Brookes\, and Har
 old Lloyd) as well as performing in the highly structured style of silent f
 ilm actors of the era.\n</p>\n<p>\n  Tickets are $14 general admission\, $1
 0 students and seniors\, and $7 for OSU students and can be reserved online

  person at\n  the Memorial Union business office during normal business hou
 rs Monday - Friday. There will also be a box office facility open in the Me
