DESCRIPTION:The geology of Central Oregon represents several millennia of t
 errestrial disturbance and upheaval. At first glance the landscape seems un
 complicated and similar but underneath lies a plethora of\ncomplex tales fr
 om the ancient past. Cascades Adventures will be hiking into our geologic p
 ast in the westernmost province of the Blue Mountains. Come join us Saturda
 y\, November 22nd as we hike to an\nancient column of volcanic tuff and exp
 lore the brightly colored soils from eons ago. This is a moderately strenuo
 us hike covering a round trip distance of 5.6 mile to the base of Steins Pi
 llar. The\nend of the day will consist of a couple ¼ &amp\; ½ mile walks 
 at the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.
