CORVALLIS- Oregon State University’s popular Bard in the Quad program is back in 2009 with William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy, Twelfth Night. This
outdoor production in the MU Quad at the heart of the OSU campus runs August 5-9 and 12-16. All performances begin at 7:30 P.M. Seating is not provided, so audience members are encouraged to bring
a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on. Pack a picnic and enjoy some Shakespeare on a summer evening!
This beloved comedy features the story of Viola, a young maiden washed ashore after a tragic shipwreck. Wishing to protect her virtue, Viola disguises herself
as a boy and joins the service of the lovelorn Duke, Orsino. Sparks fly and a comic love triangle develops when Viola is asked to woo the melancholy Olivia on behalf of Orsino. Meanwhile, the other
members of Olivia’s household concoct their own schemes and love matches. The play features swordplay, music, mistaken identities, clever clowns, and love lost and found again all set against the
backdrop of the mysterious country of Illyria.
Director Elizabeth Helman comments that this story is perfect for Bard in the Quad’s unique outdoor setting. “Twelfth Night is a play about excess and intensely passionate characters who fall in and out of love quickly and our concept for this production emphasizes Illyria as a world of extremes. A large, outdoor venue allows us to create a very playful and theatrical world for these over-the-top characters to exist.”
The cast features Michael Pierson Bishop (Los Angeles, CA) as Fabian, Matt Bradley (Coquille, OR) as Malvolio, Jordan Brinck (Woodinville, WA) as Curio, Ian Burns (Portland, OR) as Antonio, Erin Cunningham (Corvallis, OR) as Olivia, Troy Eggers (Beaverton, OR) as Sebastian, Matt Holland (Corvallis, OR) as Feste, Kimberly Holling (Ontario, OR) as Viola, Eric Nepom (Corvallis, OR) as Orsino, Jeff Nichols (Clackamas, OR) as Sir Andrew, Lacey Nolan (Pendleton, OR) as Maria, and Nick Sheler (Lebanon, OR) as Sir Toby.
Online ticket sales are going on now! They will be available over the phone at 541-737-2784 and through the Memorial Union office starting July 20, 2009.
Tickets will also be available in the center of the Memorial Union Quad prior to each performance between 6:30 and 7:30 P.M. Ticket prices are $14/Adult, $10/Senior (over 55) and Student, and
$7/OSU Student.
