Interactive Exploration of High Dimensional Large Tables Using Data Seriation
Entertainment, television and advertising agencies have been undergoing fundamental changes with how they manage their businesses. They use data about TV viewing and actual consumer behavior information to better manage their goals and target advertising. Their tasks typically involve analysis of viewing data with respect to many demographic variables resulting in large data tables. This report describes a visual interface that helps both advertising agencies and network operators/salespersons explore TV analytic data interactively, specifically large, high dimensional tabular query results. We experiment with table seriation algorithms as well as data encoding schemes for use within a tabular data representation. We have followed the Nested Blocks and Guidelines design model to guide us through the visualization process. This report describes our design process, justifications for the design choices, and the resulting tabular data visualization tool.
