Adventures in Modeling with MPM II: Wood Glue, AeroGel and Finite GIMP

Wednesday, May 10, 2017 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

A brief overview to computational modeling of solid mechanics and fluid mechanics using Material Point Method (MPM). Including an overview of the modeling process and various applications related to Wood Science.

Chad Hammerquist is a PhD Candidate obtaining a dual degree in Mechanical Engineering and Wood Science at Oregon State University. He received his Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics at George Fox University in Newberg, OR. After obtaining his Master's in Mathematics at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, he worked for several years as a Financial Statistician for Scentsy, Inc. He joined Dr. John Nairn's research group in 2014, working on further developing the Material Point Method (MPM) and its various applications. His research interest areas include: continuum mechanics, MPM, scientific visualization, statistical modeling, and optimization.
