Root Disease Management – Field Workshop and Twilight Tour

Wednesday, June 14, 2017 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

This field workshop is for woodland owners and forestry professionals who are interested in:
• Learning to identify common root diseases
• Observing root disease symptoms and effects in typical valley margin woodlands
• Sharing and comparing different management strategies to reduce the impact of root diseases

The primary root disease on the tour is laminated root rot, which is estimated to affect Douglas-fir across 10-15% of northwest Oregon forests. The workshop will be led by Dave Shaw, OSU Extension Forest Health Specialist and Glenn Ahrens, OSU Extension Forester.

Meet at the Thronson Family Tree Farm where transportation will be provided to tour sites there and at the OSU Rams Dell Forest. The tour will feature a variety of examples of root disease and surveys, management
techniques and long-term results after 25-30 years.

Please dress for the weather of the day with appropriate boots and field clothes. Refreshments, snacks, and van transportation will be provided. There is a $15.00 fee and
registration is required by June 7, 2017.
