Distinguished Professor Lecture: Alan Mix

Past Dials Future: Potential Climate Tipping Points and their Impacts in a Warming World

Monday, May 15, 2017 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM

Alan Mix, Distinguished Professor of Earch, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, has viewed the world not only as it is today, but as it used to be thousands of years ago. This helps us understand what forces were at work then and what that may mean for our future as the climate changes.  He has tied together prehistoric changes on land, sea, in ice and biota, from the tropics to the ice packs, and is one of the pioneers in studying ‘tipping points’ at which global change might accelerate.   The lecture will be followed by a 2:45 p.m. reception hosted by the Office of the Provost and the Colleges of Agricultural Sciences and Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences.
