Introduction to FSMA for Small and Very Small Businesses

NEW Food Safety Training Session @ FIC!

Thursday, August 17, 2017 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

This is a recommended introductory session for those that are not familiar with FSMA, or those small businesses that are considering taking the 2.5 day standardized FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Food training.

This course will be taught by FIC instructors Dr. Jovana Kovacevic and Ms. Doretta Claycomb, who are also certified Lead Instructors for FSMA Preventive Controls curriculum.


Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was signed into law by President Obama in 2011. The core principle of the law is to focus on prevention of food safety contamination throughout the food chain, in order to protect the American public from foodborne illnesses. To implement FSMA, seven foundational rules have followed the law, addressing different aspects of food supply.    

Different requirements and implementation dates apply to facilities based on their sizes, types of value-added activities performed, and other factors.
