BARD IN THE QUAD: Two Gentlemen of Verona

Friday, August 4, 2017 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM

Bard in the Quad returns for its 12th season this August with a rootin-tootin-shootin-boot-scootin’ rendition of William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy Two Gentlemen of Verona set in the American Wild West. Performances run August 3-6 and 10-13 at 7:30 p.m. in the MU Quad on the Oregon State University Campus.

Proteus and Valentine are inseparable buddies living in happily Verona. The bonds of friendship are tested when Valentine leaves home to seek his fortune in Milan and Proteus stays behind for the love of the spunky and flirtatious Julia. Promises are quickly broken when Proteus finds himself at the court of the Duke of Milan and suddenly infatuated with Valentine’s witty and coquettish love-interest, Sylvia. What follows is Proteus’ outlandish plot to woo his best friend’s girl and a whirlwind of action including disguise, mistaken identity, an inept band of outlaws, and a scene-stealing dog.

This summer’s production embraces the bombastic style of classic melodrama featuring bold physical comedy, dance, and live folk music presented by Miss Kitty and the Barn Bangerz. In an exciting tie-in Bard in the Quad has partnered with Heartland Human Society to feature an adoptable dog in the role of Crab for each performance. Heartland volunteers will join the cast and crew in promoting this organization’s work to care for homeless animals in Benton County.

The cast features Oregon State University students, staff, alumni and community members including: Stuart Ashenbrenner as Valentine; Cheyenne Dickey as Antonia/Bandit; Matt Easdale as Bandit; Sedona Garcia as Sylvia; Forest Gilpin as Thurio; Genesis Hansen as Julia; Matt Holland as Launce; Kay Keegan as musician; Grace Klinges as Lucetta/Bandit; Emily Peters as Miss Kitty;  Mac Powers as musician; Andrew Schiek as Speed; Mike Stephens as Duke of Milan; and Kyle Stockdall as Proteus.

A box office facility located in the center of the MU Quad opens each performance evening at 6:30. This is an outdoor performance and no seating is provided. Please bring blankets or lawn chairs and warm clothing. No late seating or late admission. Seating begins at 6:30 pm. No one will be seated prior to 6:30 pm.
