Citizen Fire Academy - Douglas County

Part 1 of 8: Introductory Session

The Citizen Fire Academy (CFA) volunteer education program represents a joint effort of many statewide and local agencies. The goals of this program are to develop your skills and knowledge so that you may help reduce the risk of catastrophic effects of wildfire for your home, your neighborhood, and your community. Over the course of 6 weeks, participants will attend two in-person classes, two field classes, and complete four online modules from the comfort of your own home. Each online module includes reading and video tutorials, review exercises, discussion board. Throughout the course, you will work on your own fire preparedness plan and present your final plan at the graduation session. Topics covered in the course include fire science, living in a fire environment, home protection strategies, and fuels reduction models.



September 28 – 6-8pm – Introductory Session

September 29 – Begin Online Module 1: Fire Science

October 9 – Begin Online Module 2: Living in a Fire Environment

October 19 – Begin Online Module 3: Home Protection Strategies

October 21 – 9am to 3pm – Douglas Complex Fire burn area – Field Tour: Fire Science, Living in a Fire Adapted Ecosystem and the Wildland-Urban Interface

October 30 – Begin Online Module 4: Fuels Reduction Methods

November 4 – 9am to 3pm –Field Tour: Evaluating Fire Risk around Homes and Neighborhoods, Fuels Reduction Treatments

November 9 – 6pm to 8pm – Graduation Session
