Two Award Winning Poet Readings

Maggie Chula and Lex Runciman

Tuesday, September 26, 2017 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

You are invited to join us for an evening with two award-winning poets on September 26th. Margaret (Maggie) Chula will be reading from Daffodils at Twilight, a study of finding the miraculous in the seemingly ordinary. And Lex Runciman will be reading from Salt Moons: Poems 1981-2016, a collection of poems that invites us to remember the beauty of the natural world in hectic times.

Lex Runciman has lived most of his life in the Willamette Valley. Along the way, he worked as warehouseman, shipping-receiving clerk, and a stacker in a box mill. He has published six books of poems, including most recently Salt Moons: Poems 1981-2016 from Salmon Poetry (Ireland).  And earlier volume, The Admirations, won the Oregon Book Award. His poems have also received the Kenneth O. Hanson Award and the Silcox Prize and been featured on Verse Daily and in various anthologies including most recently CutBank 40 and Alive at the Center.

Maggie Chula has published eight collections of poetry including, most recently, Daffodils at Twilight. Grants from the Oregon Arts Commission and the Regional Arts and Culture Council have supported her work, as well as fellowships to the Vermont Studio Center, the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, and Playa. Maggie has been a featured speaker and workshop leader at writers’ conferences throughout the United States, as well as in Poland, Canada, and Japan. She has also served as president of the Tanka Society of America and as Poet Laureate for Friends of Chamber Music. Living in Kyoto for twelve years, she now makes her home in Portland.
