LFA Seminar Series: Copyright Education and the Undergraduate Student; Retrieving Oregon Indians from Obscurity

Clara Llebot Lorente

Friday, October 13, 2017 10:15 AM - 11:45 AM

The Library Faculty Association Seminar Series and Research Presentations brings presenters from the OSU Library and from other affiliations to talk about their research projects. All members of the campus community are invited to attend.
On October 13th we will have three speakers from OSU Libraries & Press. Jane Nichols, Associate Professor and Head of the Teaching and Engagement, will give the talk "Copyright Education and the Undergraduate Student", where we will learn about how she and her collaborators used student assessment and iterative co-reflection to modify their copyright session to increase its relevancy and narrow the gap between student’s existing knowledge and their anticipated outcomes; Richard Sapon-White, the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services will present “Retrieving Oregon Indians from Obscurity: A Project to Enhance Access to Resources on Tribal History and Culture”, in which he will tell us about a project to establish subject headings for some tribes not yet present in Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), as an effort to improve the discoverability of resources for Oregon Indian tribes; Laurie Bridges, Instruction and Outreach Librarian will talk about the situation of linguistic diversity on the internet with her talk "Language minorities = 404 page not found".
