The Monterey Pop Music Festival captured the spirit of the bay area’s “summer of love” and featured memorable performances by Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, and Janis Joplin. To commemorate
the fifty-year anniversary of the Festival, Cinema 21, the College of Liberal Arts and the School of Writing, Literature, and Film at Oregon State University present D.A. Pennebaker’s celebrated
documentary, Monterey Pop, introduced by OSU film professor Jon Lewis and Robert Santelli, the former executive director of the
Grammy Museum.
Jon Lewis is the Distinguished Professor of Film Studies at Oregon State University and the author of twelve books, including Hard-Boiled Hollywood: Crime and Punishment
in Postwar Los Angeles.
Robert Santelli is the former Executive Director of the Grammy Museum and the former CEO of the Experience Project in Seattle. He is the author of
Greetings from E Street and the
Bob Dylan Scrapbook.
