Launch-U Entrepreneurship Speaker Series

 The Launch-U Speaker Series, sponsored by InnovationX and the OSU Entrepreneurship Club, brings in successful entrepreneurs and innovators to share their experiences and help students develop their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Launch-U is held on Thursday nights from 6 to 7PM during weeks 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 of every term in Austin Hall 100. Following the talk there is a networking reception in the Austin Marketplace to continue the conversation with the speaker and to develop relationships with other student entrepreneurs.

 Any student is welcome to attend. 

Speaker Bio:

Topic: Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone Caroline Cummings is an entrepreneur, public speaker, advocate and philanthropist. She's led global technology change management initiatives for Bristol-Meyers Squibb pharmaceuticals and served as the vice president of business development for Palo Alto Software. She’s been the CEO and co-founder of two technology companies in Eugene, Oregon. She’s raised close to $1 million in angel capital for her own ventures, more than $1 million for non-profits, and has coached other entrepreneurs on how to raise capital.

Cummings has experienced both startup failures and successes, and she believes life’s greatest lessons come from a willingness to fail and a desire to step outside of your comfort zone. Cummings is the founder of Varo Ventures ― a firm that catalyzes entrepreneurship and innovation. Her main client is Oregon RAIN (Regional Accelerator & Innovation Network) where she serves as their venture catalyst. In this role she helps entrepreneurs in Oregon get connected to the resources they need to start and scale their ventures. She also recently helped start a new angel investment fund called Willamette Valley Capital Fund and personally has investments in six Oregon-based startups. Cummings is passionate about recruiting more women into angel investing and has helped quadruple the number of women angels who joined the Willamette Angels in 2016.

Cummings has been the recipient of The Register-Guard's "20 Under 40 Award, and she's currently on the board of the Oregon Economic Development Association. She serves on the board of Heritage Laboratories ― a nutraceutical skincare startup. Her biggest passion is mentoring at-risk youth and underserved entrepreneurs. Through Mercy Corps, she mentors entrepreneurs in Cairo, Egypt and Gaza, Palestine. She’s a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia. She’s married and has one daughter.
