Saturday, March 3, 2018 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Oregon State University Theatre’s 2017-2018 Season: In the Public Eye, begins with the Ionesco’s classic Absurdist political comedy Rhinoceros March 1-3 and 9-10 at 7:30 pm and March 11 at 2:00 pm on the Withycombe Hall Main Stage. Withycombe Hall is located at 30th and Campus Way on the Oregon State University Corvallis Campus.

Eugène Ionesco’s 1959 exploration of the spread of Fascism has been re-imagined for the 21st century in a new adaptation by Wes Savick. This fast-paced, funny, and terrifying script tells the story of a small town whose residents are transforming into rhinoceroses. Berenger, a flustered everyman, attempts to resist the metamorphosis, becoming increasingly paranoid as those around him are swept up in the tide of change.

2007 OSU Theatre alum, Ajai Tripathi directs this production with a desire to emphasize the timely issues explored in this script: “This era has been characterized by a rash and sudden descent from previous standards of decency.  I think this play shows that even within such a predicament it is still possible to maintain one’s dignity, hold on to enlightened values, and resist the temptation to accept this degradation as normal.”

This cast features OSU students Daniel Bordenave (Logic Student/Old Man), Srimanyu Ganapathineedi (Mr. Shopkeeper/Fireman), Cole Haenggi (Stinger), Shawntae Harris (Café Owner, Fireman), Thomas McKean (Berenger), Max Morter (Logician), Nate Pereira (Lumpin), Bria Love Robertson (Lady With Cat, Mrs. Boeuf), Kyle Stockdall (Jean), Sarah Wagner (Waitress/Butterfly), and Wendy Zhang (Mrs. Shopkeeper, Old Woman).

Tickets are $12 General Admission, $10 Senior, $8 Youth/Student, and $5 OSU Student and are available through the OSU Theatre Box Office by calling 541-737-2784. Contact the box office for DAS accommodations and/or group ticket sales.
