Nondestructive evaluation of standing trees quality and effect of low temperature on the measurement accuracy

This presentation will provide a brief introduction of wood nondestructive testing development in China. Dr. Xu will especially focus on the internal decay detection and quality evaluation of standing trees based on stress wave method, and the effect of low temperature on the measurement accuracy. At low temperatures ( below 0℃), water status in wood will change which can affect the propagation of stress wave in wood and then cause the change of nondestructive evaluation results. Thus, the effects of environmental temperature on the moisture content (MC) and ice content (IC) in standing trees or wood will also be discussed in this presentation.



Huadong Xu received a doctoral degree in Forest Engineering from Northeast Forestry University in 2011 and had half a year's research experience in USDA Forest Products Laboratory, Madison WI, as a visiting scholar in 2012. He has been working on research of wood nondestructive testing using various methods since 2005.
