Rockfish Movement at Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve

Collaborative research to study movement patterns of adult rockfish in a protected area

Wednesday, March 14, 2018 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Please join local marine fish biologist Tom Calvanese and Port Orford commercial fisherman Jeff Miles for a presentation of findings from a collaborative research project to track the movements of adult rockfish at the Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve.

The Redfish Rocks Marine Reserve went into effect on January 1, 2012, providing refuge to fish within its boundaries. Since individual fish are only protected while they are within the reserve, we need to understand how residential they are. This is the question this research aimed to answer, and it led to a partnership between scientists and local fishermen to design and carry out this work.

Everyone is invited to join us to learn what we found out – we hope to see you there!
