Planar and Spherical Stereographics for Visualization
"Until relatively recently, mankind was not aware that there was a separable binocular depth sense. Through the ages, people like Euclid and Leonardo understood that we see different images of the world with each eye. But it was Wheatstone who in 1838 explained to the world, with his stereoscope and drawings, that there is a unique depth sense, stereopsis, produced by retinal disparity"[1]. We need to let the viewer deals with the use of binocular vision for the observation of other perspective views or overlapping photographs and the method by which views are produced. In addition, we will be using the Stereographics, which is a process whereby the image in the left eye differs from the right eye giving a sharp image of extraordinary depth. So, we took a scientific data based on equation and visualize it to simulate four heaters in the room. We are trying to see the data in more detailed. So, we apply many techniques such as scalar visualization, which include unform point and jitter point cloud, plane and contour (2D), wireframe isosurface, volume interaction, and vector (3D). After we have all this kind of visualization, we implement the stereographics to enhance depth perception. So, we have many different setups for Eye separation and Z zero parallax. We have seen that the point cloud did not do a good job with the stereographics. However, the contour line, wireframe isosurface, and volume interaction did a very good depth perception. Nonetheless, the volume interaction did not have a nice depth when we increase the transparency very much or decrease it as well. It somewhat easy to see depth in the computer but it hard to see it on the hard copy paper when you print it. Finally, the stereographcs helped to see that depth.
