Dr. James P. Reilly, past ACSM National President, presents two session.
This morning session covers the development of geodesy including Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation Gravity and Equipotential Surfaces, the Geoid, Vertical Datums, Precession and Nutation, and Polar Motion. The NAD 83 3-dimensional datum and the NSPS 2007 adjustment will be discussed in detail along with the International Terrestrial Reference Frames (ITRF). Continental drift in the Pacific Northwest will be addressed in the NGS, "Horizontal time Dependent Positioning" software.
The afternoon session discusses static and real-time kinematic GPS control surveying. Mission planning, standards and specifications, order of accuracy, project planning and network design will be lightly covered. Also addressed are the basics of RTK base and rover communications, orthometric heights, OPUS, and the potential value of the second civil signal now on all Block 11R satellites.
