Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend the 2nd Annual English Department MA Symposium, Wednesday, February 6, at 4 p.m. in the MU 206 to hear a panel of graduate students read papers
on their areas of expertise. Sarah E. Gallup, a second year MA specializing in rhetoric and writing, will read a paper related to her thesis: “Learning by Example: Imitation in the Pedagogy David
Bartholomae.” Julie Bacon, a first year MA, will draw on eco-criticism in her paper “Water, Wealth, and the Wonder Within: The Roles of Nature in Edith Wharton’s The Custom of the Country.” Adam
Drury, also a first year MA, will read a paper that explores areas of interest for his thesis: “Rescuing the Real: Recontextualizing the Sublime from the Eighteenth Century to the Global Era.” A
question period will follow the papers at 5 p.m. This event is coordinated by Professor Evan Gottlieb, Graduate Advisor, to give graduate students more experience presenting papers and an opportunity
to build their CV.
