When Good Wine Goes Bad: A One-Day Workshop on the Microbial Spoilage of Wine

This workshop, lead by Dr James Osborne, OSU Extension Enologist, will explore the various microorganisms present during the winemaking process that can cause wine spoilage issues. The growth and occurrence of these microorganisms will be discussed as well as the specific spoilage issues that can arise from their growth in wine. A series of wine tastings will be used to illustrate taints that can be caused by specific spoilage microorganisms. In addition, the use and application of a microscope in the winery will be covered. This workshop runs from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm with registration at 8:30 am. Lunch is provided.
