Access Management Techniques

- Traffic Safety Workshop

The program will emphasize important access management techniques and example application of them. Techniques covered will include, but not be limited to;
  • Unsignalized access connection spacing
  • Corner clearance
  • Driveway channelizing islands
  • Nontraversable medians
  • Directional median openings
  • Right-in/right-out only
  • Indirect access
  • Left-turn and right-turn deceleration lane
  • Isolated left-turn bay
  • Acceleration lanes
  • Acquisition of access rights & development rights

Vergil Stover is professor emeritus of urban planning & civil engineering at Texas A&M University. His professional experience includes traffic impact studies, travel forecasting, economic analysis, urban land use & transportation plans, & highway construction.

Robert Layton, professor emeritus of civil engineering at OSU, specializes in transportation systems analysis, facility design, traffic operations & control, highway safety, transportation energy & economics. Both have extensive background in access management issues.
