Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi Public Talk

The Rights of Women and Children and Their Role as Leaders

Friday, April 24, 2009 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Dr. Ebadi's tireless efforts to promote the rights of women, children, and political prisoners in Iran made her the first Muslim woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Ebadi currently works and lives in Iran as a lawyer and defender of human rights.

Dr. Ebadi will be signing books after the talk.

Her talk kicks off the 2009 PeaceJam NW Youth Conference, held in OSU's Memorial Union April 25th & 26th. Dr. Ebadi and 200-300 high school and middle school aged youth, from around the Northwest, will work with OSU student mentors in sessions focusing on Peace, Equity and International Issues to create energy and leadership for positive change globally and locally. Conference cost is $75, which includes three meals on Saturday and two on Sunday. The conference web site and registration forms can be found at: http://oregonstate.edu/peacejam/
