Topic for this session: Provider Tax: Leveraging Medicaid

This new course features public health experts and legislative guest speakers who will discuss recent health bills and issues regarding Oregon public health policy.  These sessions are open to all OSU students, faculty, and staff – feel welcome to attend any that interest you!

Presenters:  

Kelley Kaiser, Vice President, Samaritan Health Services

  • Overview of Medicaid and Medicare

Tom Fronk, Director Administrative Services, Benton County Oregon

  • Recent and Proposed changes to Medicaid

Potential Discussion Points:

  • What is Medicare?  What is Medicaid? What federal law is it a part of?
  • What is SCHIP?
  • What is the Oregon Health Plan, and what waivers made it possible?
  • What is “Managed Care” or HMOs and how do they work when applied to Medicaid & Medicare?
  • What are your thoughts on extending a Medicare-like system to all citizens?
  • What changes are being discussed for Medicaid and Medicare?
  • Are there other Medicaid waivers that could help Oregon?
  • Is Oregon pursuing any new and creative uses of Medicaid?
