Topic for this session: Provider Taxes: Making our current system work

This new course features public health experts and legislative guest speakers who will discuss recent health bills and issues regarding Oregon public health policy.  These sessions are open to all OSU students, faculty, and staff – feel welcome to attend any that interest you!

Potential Discussion Points:

  • How is a provider tax used to increase revenue that the state has for health care?
  • What is the provider tax that was passed? Who pays it?
  • What benefits does a provider tax create for patients and for providers?
  • What are the down-sides or objections to provider taxes? What alternatives exist?
  • How were those concerns addressed in the legislative process? 
  • How can we evaluate/assess the effectiveness/success of provider taxes?
  • What remains to be done?
