Le dernier des fous (The Last of the Crazy People)

2006, France
Dir. Laurent Achard
French, with English subtitles
102 minutes

Director Laurent Achard's latest film depicts the breakup of a peasant family as seen through the eyes of Martin, an eleven-year-old boy. His mother lives in her room as a recluse, his older brother drinks heavily, and his father, dominated by his mother-in-law, is a powerless witness to the destruction of his family. Martin, although protected and comforted by the Moroccan maid and the presence of his cat, decides to put an end to the family's problems.
