The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures - with the cooperation of the Goethe Institute in New York, the German and French Consulates in San Francisco and the Spanish Embassy in Washington D.C. - presents a series of recent award-winning films from Germany, France, Spain and Algeria. The film screenings take place 7-9 p.m. in 101 Owen Hall during International Education Week. Admission is free and open to the general public.

102 minutesDirector Laurent Achard's latest film depicts the breakup of a peasant family as seen through the eyes of Martin, an eleven-year-old boy. His mother lives in her room as a recluse, his older brother drinks heavily, and his father, dominated by his mother-in-law, is a powerless witness to the destruction of his family. Martin, although protected and comforted by the Moroccan maid and the presence of his cat, decides to put an end to the family's problems.
