Lunchtime Lecture looks at Preschool’s Role in School -- and Life Success

It's Not All ABCs

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Is preschool critical for children's success in school -- and in life?  Join Assistant Professor Shannon Lipscomb for and It's in the Bag lecture when she addresses the role of preschool and child care experiences in child development.

Lipscomb  will examine the types of preschool and child care experiences that matter most and explore the research behind the media hype and the policies that aim to improve early learning in Oregon to give parents and teachers valuable information to  help children to get off to a good start.

Lipscomb examines children's development of school readiness within child care and early education settings. Her work focuses on children’s self-regulation skills that facilitate later school success, and on vulnerable populations of children, including those involved in the child welfare system. She also conducts applied research on the effectiveness of policies and programs that strive to improve the quality of child care and early learning in Oregon, and to increase access to quality care for children from vulnerable populations.  Lipscomb received her bachelor’s degree from Whitman College in 2000 and her Ph.D. from University of California, Davis in June 2007.

The “It’s in the Bag” lecture series are free and no reservation is needed. Audience members are asked to pick-up a free parking pass from the main office before parking.  For more information visit http://www.osucascades.edu/lunchtime-lectures or contact 541-322-3100 or info@osucascades.edu.
