Machine Learning for Species Distribution Modeling: Data Quality Control for Citizen Science and Multi-species Prediction
Species Distribution Modeling (SDM) models the relationship between species and their habitat, which is characterized by a set of environmental features. Accurate species distribution models are essential in the design of ecological reserves, predicting the effects of global change, and testing ecological theory. Though species distribution modeling has been studied extensively in ecology literature, recent developments from other fields have introduced new research opportunities and challenges. In particular, we are interested in two problems in species distribution modeling: 1) species distribution modeling with citizen science data, and 2) multi-species distribution modeling. In this proposal, we summarize the work we have done so far on these two problems and propose the future work for multi-species distribution modeling.
