Jordan Beamer and Noa Bruhis will lead a field trip to the Deschutes River to visit the Rounde Butte Dam and float the Deschutes River!
Don Ratliff, head fisheries biologist at Portland General Electric's Round Butte hydro project and one of the primary drivingforces in the Deschutes fish passage project(http://deschutespassage.com/) has agreed to give our group a tour of the selective water withdrawal facility on the Round Butte Dam and a brief presentation of the planning/modeling that went into designing the system.
Then we will get our feet wet in the crisp fall air by doing a quick "splash-and-giggle" float trip on the Deschutes River near Maupin, which is a fun way to experience the area and spend time on the river.Noa Bruhis will be our head paddle guide and we are in the process of searching for a couple more experienced guides. The weather is normally stable and clear this time of year, and hopefully we will get to see some adult salmon returning at the fish ladder into the upper Deshutes basin.
