“Let’s Get Healthy –Engaging Schools, Community and the Workplace in Research and Health Promotion" Jackilen Shannon, PhD, RD, MPH, Associate Professor, Public Health Preventive Medicine & Scientist, Center for Research of Occupational and Environmental Toxicology (CROET), OHSU. Dr. Shannon is a nutritional epidemiologist with a strong track record of investigation in the role of diet and nutrition in carcinogenesis.

The primary focus of Dr. Shannon's work has been to unveil the nutritional factors that promote the development and progression of human prostate cancer. In 2003,

Dr. Shannon received funding for an NCI Career Transition Development Award. This non-mentored award is designed to support the development of new investigators in cancer prevention.

Dr. Shannon's stated research focus is on fatty acids and prostate cancer prevention, with a primary focus on the use of molecular epidemiologic methods. This particular award has supported her on-going case-control study of dietary and red cell w-3 fatty acids and inflammatory mediators in prostate cancer risk.
