What is the Bend Venture unConference?

It’s the FREE “kid sibling” of the annual Bend Venture Conference. The 2012 unConference is planned for Thursday, October 18, 12:30-5pm at the BendBroadband VAULT Datacenter facility.

What goes on at the unConference?

Now in it’s third year, the unConference is a place to share ideas and talk about the Bend Technology and Business startup ecosystem. In the past it’s been a casual get together with a couple hours of barcamp-style presentations.

This year the unConference is experiencing growth and change. In addition to the ad-hoc presentations, we’ve decided to add an expo area with booths for organizations that contribute to Bend’s thriving tech and business community. We are anticipating participation from regional user groups, innovative tech-centric educational initiatives, and other community grassroots efforts that share similar goals.

Another new addition is the Lounge area featuring free food & drinks and space for conversation and casual gaming. Yes, you read that right... FREE BEER.

What organizations qualify?

Technical usergroups, local technical education organizations, tech conferences held locally, economic development programs, and other programs that support a strong tech community in Central Oregon (Deschutes, Crook, and Jefferson Counties).

How can local usergroups and tech community organizations participate?

We sincerely hope that your organization will consider organizing and staffing a booth at this year’s unConference. There is no fee to have a booth - all we ask is that you provide volunteers for your organization’s booth at the unConference (noon-5pm) and prepare a short (two minute) talk about your group. This will be an outstanding opportunity for your group to connect to business stakeholders in Central Oregon and meet new contacts with similar interests.

What's the agenda at the 2012 unConference?

Presentation topics are set by attendees during the first hour of the conference, so the agenda is up to YOU. Attendees are invited to deliver a 5 minute talk (no slides) in one of these three tracks:

  • Lessons Learned
  • Hacks
  • New Ventures

That's followed by 5 minutes for discussion. Slots fill up every year, so arrive early if you intend to present! Whether it's sage advice or a funny& irreverent tale, we want your take. Everyone's encouraged to jump in.

What else? How about a flowing keg of great local beer, tours of the BendBroadband Vault datacenter, cocktails made with local spirits, tasty treats from local foodies,a huge expo with information about local tech user groups and other community-minded organizations, the 10 minute talks...and YOU.

Created three years ago by the local Tech Alliance and its co-working space, TechSpaceBend, the unConference gives a nod to Central Oregon's incredibly talented techies -both those who have a gig with a local shop, and many more who've found their telecommuting heaven right here in the High Desert.
