NW Fire Science Consortium Technical Field Tour

Management of Cheatgrass Fuel Loading in the Shrub-Steppe

Dr. Steven Link, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian reservation & Native Plant Land-scaping and restoration LLC, will discuss results from recent research on controlling cheatgrass and fire risk in shrub-steppe region of central Washington.

Topics include:  The relationship between fire and cheatgrass; Estimating cheatgrass cover and mapping fire risk using aerial photography; Integrated weed management: using prescribed fire, herbicides, and seeding native bunchgrass to control cheatgrass; Risks associated with using "Plateau" herbicide
