Coos/Curry Chapter Howdy Neighbor Tour

Oregon Small Woodlands Association

Join us for a tour of Elk Creek Ranch, located 13 miles southeast of Brookings on the Winchuck River. The property is 230 timbered acres divided by the river and county road. Tree species include Douglas Fir, Red Alder, Redwood, Oregon Myrtle, Tanoak, Big Leaf Maple and Hemlock. 

Tour participants will walk among the old growth redwood trees, learn about the spread of Sudden Oak Death and the ramifications for the timber industry in Curry County and the State of Oregon, observe a recent stream restoration project and share information about fish habitat, tour areas that have been pre-commercially thinned, and tour areas that have been commercially thinned

Driving directions:


From North on Hwy 101:

Winchuck Richer Rd is a left turn about 6.5 miles south of Brookings. Turn is well marked and is shortly after the four lane highway changes to two lanes. 


From South on Hwy 101:

Shortly after you enter Oregon, you will cross over the Winchuck River Bridge and Winchuck River Rd is the first right turn. 


Follow Winchuck River Rd about 7 miles and you will see signs indicating Howdy Neighbor Tour.
