Darwin's Sacred Cause

A Horning Lecture with Jim Moore

Tuesday, October 29, 2013 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

James Moore questions the established view of Darwin as an objective scientist, showing how passionate opposition to slavery motivated his research and gave him courage to challenge the scientific and religious establishment of his day.

James Moore is a Professor at Open University in the UK who studies the social history of natural theology, and scientific naturalism since 1800. His research concentrates on the life and legacies of Charles Darwin, but he is also interested in "science and religion" issues, evolutionary concepts of nature and society, the popularization of science, and twentieth-century fundamentalisms.
