Landscape change and climate change: mismatch between science and policy

Friday, August 23, 2013 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Presented by: Dr. Clive McAlpine, Associate Professor, University of Queensland, Brisbane
Dr. McAlpine works at the interface of landscape ecology, biodiversity conservation and climate change. He is an internationally recognized landscape ecologist in the areas of biodiversity conservation in fragmented landscapes, environmental management, modeling land cover change, and climate impacts of land cover change. A recent study of his found that land clearing made the climate of southeast Australia significantly hotter and dryer, and hence highlighted the need to include native vegetation in climate change mitigation
