"Sea surface temperature variability in the upwelling region off Oregon influenced by the Columbia River plume"

Tuesday, September 10, 2013 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Coastal ocean model simulations with and without the Columbia River (CR) discharge are compared to each other and to available observations (including satellite SST, mooring temperature and salinity time series, and glider hydrographic sections) to evaluate how predictable events of freshening surface waters are along the Oregon shelf (south of the CR mouth) during a summer upwelling season and to understand the strength of the SST signal associated with the river plume during this time. During major upwelling events, colder SST is found inshore of the upwelling front in the simulations with CR than in the case without CR.

Join us for tea and cookies at 3pm, seminar to begin at 3:30
