Variation in marine migration patterns of Puget Sound salmon: Small cuts at the knotty problem of residency

Pacific salmon vary greatly in marine migration patterns, both among and within species.  One intriguing variant is the "residency" of salmon in interior marine waters such as Puget Sound, as opposed to migration to the coastal or open ocean waters.  How prevalent is this migration pattern in different salmon species, and what factors related to the fish and the environment might affect it?  This presentation will review recent coded wire tagging and sonic tracking studies that address these questions, though the phenomenon remains incompletely understood.
