Forestry Field Tour

Diverse Owners, Diverse Management Styles

Saturday, October 19, 2013 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Small Woodland owner and longtime forest contractor Don Hamann will lead a tour of forest ownerships in the Butte Falls area, including public lands (BLM and Medford Water Commission), forest industry, and private woodlands.  Topics will include thining for fire hazard reduction and watershed management, combining timber and cattle, timber harvest and reforestation methods, and others.  This is a unique opportunity to see how and why different types of owners manage the way they do, and to take a look at the results.

Meet at the Sugar Pine cafe in Butte Falls (follow Butte Falls Hwy into town, cafe address is 343 Broad St., the main road through town).  We will carpool to the field sites within about 15 miles of town.  Dress for walking in the woods.  You are invited to lunch at the Sugar Pine cafe after the tour.  Pay at the door.

Please RSVP to OSU Extension 541-776-7371 and let us know if you want lunch.
