Boater Safety Course

Saturday, November 9, 2013 (All Day Event)

A great opportunity to learn important on-water safety skills is being hosted by Boat Oregon this coming November.

More than 90% of all motorized boating accidents occur in boats with more than 10 HP. Knowing the rules for how to operate and navigate a boat safely can reduce the number of accidents and conflicts on state waters. To ensure all boaters follow the same rules, Oregon has created a Mandatory Boater Education Program, through which participants can receive a boater education card. Anyone operating a watercraft with greater than 10 HP in the state of Oregon MUST carry this card.

A certification course, hosted by Boat Oregon, will be offered in the Joyce Goudy Powell Room, Memorial Union Building on Saturday, November 9th from 9 AM to 5 PM. The course itself is free, but to receive your permanent card, you must pay $10 to the Oregon State Marine Board

Having a boater education card is an important qualification for many jobs that take place in and around Oregon waters - this short, one-time course will provide soon-to-be grads with a great skill to add to their resume!
