LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS: A MEDICAL SUCCESS STORY

Dr. Sugat Patel, Good Samaritan Infectious Disease Clinic, Corvallis

Dr. Sugat Patel

A diagnosis of being HIV positive used to be practically a death sentence. Now, with advances in treatment, the virus that causes AIDS can be held at bay. That means a lifetime of treatment for the estimated 50,000 people who, according to the Centers for Disease Control, are infected annually in the United States.

At the January 13, 2014, Corvallis Science Pub, Dr. Sugat Patel, an Infectious Disease Physician at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis, will discuss trends in HIV/AIDS and how he and his colleagues treat people in the mid-Willamette Valley. He’ll provide an historical overview of the AIDS epidemic and current treatment options.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Patel came to Corvallis in 2009 after serving in the U.S. Navy. He received his training at the Internal Medicine Facility of the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
