"Science to support water resources planning and management."

Friday, January 17, 2014 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Synopsis: This talk will summarize research done in collaboration with the Bureau of Reclamation and the US Army Corps of Engineers that addresses user needs in both short term water management decisions and long term water resources planning and management. The science questions addressed include (1) what is the predictability of streamflow across the contiguous USA and how can advanced forecasting methods improve operational streamflow forecasts; and (2) how is the portrayal of climate change impacts on water resources sensitive to the choice of downscaling methods and the choice/configuration of hydrologic models, and how can new downscaling methods and hydrologic modeling approaches be used effectively to improve climate impact assessments and account for hiterto neglected sources of uncertainty.
