Media Training: Pitch Workshop Series

Advantage Accelerator Event

Tuesday, April 15, 2014 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

We’ve arranged for a news media training program to be presented to our group by the staff of OSU News and Research Communications, on Tuesday, April 15, from 5-6:30 p.m.

The training session will be personal and interactive, with plenty of time to ask questions, and will provide individual guidance on how to interact with media more successfully. For our group, the NRC staff is developing some tips and suggestions that are tailored to the needs of small companies, new product development and the business world, instead of just the research coverage that is more typical of an OSU faculty member. They will include advice on honing your message, identifying aspects of your company that might be the most newsworthy, information on reporter practices, simulations of a couple TV interviews, and other information. The session will be presented by Mark Floyd, director of NRC; Dave Stauth, a science and research writer; and Larry Pribyl, their broadcast coordinator.

There is nothing you need to do to prepare for this, it’s just an opportunity to improve your interaction with print, broadcast and electronic journalists. Gaining news media attention to, and coverage of your growing small business can be a challenge, and it will be important to maximize the success of whatever opportunities present themselves in this area.
